Department Council

The Department Council is the collegial body responsible for planning, managing and overseeing all departmental activities. Its core duties are to:

  • decide how to allocate resources, facilities and equipment;
  • approve strategic documents for teaching, research and technology transfer proposed by the Director and monitor their implementation;
  • adopt departmental regulations, as well as those governing the Liaison Structure, Master’s programmes and Specialisation Schools;
  • design and endorse development plans for teaching, research and third-mission/innovation activities;
  • propose and support the recruitment of academic and research staff, evaluate study or research leave requests and issue the relevant resolutions;
  • approve the departmental teaching offer and give opinions on the creation or discontinuation of degree programmes;
  • delegate the Liaison Structure to handle technical-administrative services related to teaching and to improving the student experience;
  • supervise the quality and proper conduct of research, teaching and technology-transfer activities;
  • endorse the triennial reports on the scientific and teaching activities of staff members;
  • promote research internationalisation and fund inter-departmental initiatives;
  • submit an annual report on its activities to the University’s Board of Governors and Academic Senate;
  • appoint departmental representatives to the Faculty Council in accordance with the percentages set by regulations;
  • implement quality-assurance regulations and oversee periodic evaluations and goal attainment;
  • exercise all other powers conferred by law, the University Statute and internal regulations.

The Council is composed of all affiliated academic staff together with elected student representatives and technical-administrative staff representatives.
